Goldray Glass wins a 2017 Glass Magazine Award!

Glass Magazine has announced the product and project winners of the 2017 Glass Magazine Awards and Goldray Glass was ecstatic to receive the award for the Most Innovative Decorative Glass Project for the Fish Icon Sculpture at Tsawwassen Mills Mall. This prestigious awards program recognizes many talented and innovative companies in the glass and metal industry, and Goldray Glass is honored to be selected among them.

“It's … more amazing each year to see just how sophisticated our industry has become, and how everyone in the supply chain comes together to bring these designs to fruition,” says Judge Alice Dickerson, Marketing and Communications Manager at AGC Glass North America. This is true of Goldray’s award-winning project, as it was the result of collaboration between JPRA Design, the custom fabricator Heavy Industries, and our team at Goldray Glass.

Located an hour south of Vancouver and built on Tsawwassen First Nation land, Tsawwassen Mills reflects the values of the local community, featuring culturally significant artwork and décor throughout. As part of this, JPRA Design was tasked with creating a public art piece for the mall’s entrance that seamlessly integrated the local Coast Salish culture and maintained a modern appeal to attract the attention of mall visitors. The artists created “Fish Icon”, a sculptural representation of two salmon leaping from the water. The sculpture’s materials were selected strategically, with woven bronze metal used to represent the local culture and dichroic glass panels used to represent fish scales and bring life to the static structure. Goldray is truly honored to be recognized for our achievements and we would like to thank our partners that made this project possible through their hard work and dedication. Firstly, the visionary artists and architectural designers at JPRA Design that developed the creative design concept. Our local glazing partner and custom fabricator, Heavy Industries, who we love to collaborate with to bring innovative public art projects to fruition.  As well as the project developer, Ivanhoe Cambridge, who made this entire project possible.

Congratulations to all award recipients for your hard work and ingenuity. All award-winning projects are featured in the Aug. 29 edition of e‐glass weekly, the September 2017 issue of Glass Magazine and on GlassMagazine.com. We look forward to continuing to work alongside these talented companies in redefining what is possible in the architectural glass industry.
