Enhancing Commercial Spaces with Glass

1775 Tysons Blvd is the latest addition to Tysons Corner, a bustling hub of retail, commercial and hospitality located just North of Washington, D.C. The design was a collaboration between Architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox and Developer Lerner Enterprises who meticulously chose quality building materials that complimented one another and led to a LEED Platinum Certification.

In keeping with their crisp and elegant vision, the design team reached out to Spencer Finch – a renowned Seattle-based artist, to produce a permanent exhibit for the lobby space. Spencer Finch who, based upon his positive experiences from past projects with Goldray Glass, specified Goldray to create the laminated pieces for his design. Tysons Boulevard, like Finch’s other two projects, is an installation of vibrant colored glass. Goldray worked with JE Berkowitz to create insulated glass units comprised of laminated colored interlayer panels in shades of blue, green, purple and yellow. These panes were installed into the central tier of the curtain wall, throwing lines of color across the lobby floor when the sunlight streams in.

A linear motif is a constant throughout the building; from the sophisticated “H” design of the exterior, to the balustrades running the length of the lobby stairway. These laminated etched glass railings contrast well with the charcoal grey stone steps, allowing for open sight lines while adding texture and depth. Since the glass is not framed or capped on the ends, attention to detail was paramount to ensure smooth, finished edge-work. The panels were laminated and tempered to ensure the finished product offered durability and met safety criteria.

Goldray Glass is proud to have collaborated with JE BerkowitzAIW Inc, Harmon Inc. and the Artist Spencer Finch to enhance this project.
